Gas Saving Tips
Maintain Tire Pressure
Having low tire pressure causes more drag between your tires and the road, thereby making your engine work even harder. Improper tire pressure can reduce the lifespan of your tires and gas mileage by up to 30% or more. Check your tire pressure when the tires are cold for accurate readings. Honest-1® recommends you perform a tire pressure check every time you fill your fuel tank. Another option is to have your tires filled with Nitrogen which is a more stable gas. Some of the benefits of Nitrogen in tires are less fluctuation in tire pressure, reduced tire pressure leak down under increased temperatures and longer lasting tire life. Ask your local Honest-1® Service Manager for more information about this service.
Engine Performance
If your vehicle's spark plugs or spark plug wires are misfiring, you could be losing up to 30% in fuel efficiency. Another consideration is your engine's fuel delivery system including the fuel filter, fuel injectors and the air induction system. Regular inspections and servicing of the fuel system as well as the spark plugs and wires will help to prevent loss of fuel efficiency. Ask your local Honest-1® Service Manager about our ECO-TuneUp™.
Air Filter
When your engines air filter becomes clogged it starves the engine for air. The onboard computers adjust for this by increasing the amount of fuel to maintain consistent firing in the cylinders. This can cause up to 10% in decreased fuel efficiency. At Honest-1® we inspect your air filter every time you visit as part of our famous 21 Point Inspection.
Obey the Speed Limit
Make sure that you are driving the speed limit. Not only is it the law but it also increases fuel efficiency. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, you will pay an additional 20 cents per gallon of gas for every 5 mph above 60 mph.
Check your Gas Cap
Broken, loose or missing gas caps cause your gas to vaporize and allowing it to escape out of your tank into the atmosphere. The simple principle of evaporation can work against you making your vehicle lose gas. Make sure you tighten your gas cap or replace as needed.
Weight Limit
Do not pack your trunk with anything that is not absolutely necessary. The more weight you add to your car, the more fuel it will take to pull it down the road.
Engine Oil
Change the oil when due and always use the correct oil for your vehicle. Dirty oil or incorrect grades can increase engine friction, thereby reducing fuel efficiency. Ask your Honest-1® Service Manager for more information about our ECO Oil Change.
Preventative Maintenance
Follow your vehicle manufacturer recommended maintenance schedule. If you keep your vehicle properly maintained, it will run at peak efficiency levels. Ask your local Honest-1® Service Manager for a copy of your specific vehicle recommended maintenance schedule.
